Statement of the Presidency on Lebanon
The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its great distress and condemnation of the irresponsible Israeli shelling of the Lebanese village of Qana, and the resulting in the loss of innocent victims, most of whom were women and children.
The Arab Republic of Egypt, which has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire from the first day of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, underscores the dire need for serious international efforts to urgently pass a resolution in the Security Council calling for an immediate cessation of military operations, and calls upon the members of the Council, and in particular the permanent members, to uphold their responsibilities, in line with the Charter of the United Nations, international law and international humanitarian law, to end this aggression against Lebanon, its people and its infrastructure, and to provide the necessary calm for diplomatic action to address the underlying causes of this crisis.
In line with the above, the Arab Republic of Egypt affirms its support for the points presented by the Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad El-Signora before the Rome conference last week and which represent a practical and realistic basis for ending this crisis
