NOTICE
The Egyptian Consulate in New York, would like to bring to the kind attention of foreign nationals visiting Egypt the following important regulations, issued by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, regarding Egyptian Artifacts:-
· It is prohibited by law to sell or deal with Egyptian Artifacts within the Arab Republic of Egypt (A.R.E).
· It is prohibited to smuggle Egyptian Artifacts outside the A.R.E.
· In the event that a foreign national has acquisition of Egyptian Artifacts in his country, and they happen to fall under Egyptian legislation no. 117 of 1983 regarding the protection of Egyptian Antiquities, the following regulations will apply, if the foreign national decides to bring them into the A.R.E.:-
1. It will not be considered as a criminal act, nor will he be considered a smuggler of Egyptian artifacts.
2. It is permissible for the foreign national to keep possession of the artifacts, after acquiring the necessary permit from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as long as he will remain in Egypt.
3. In the meantime, the Supreme Council of Antiquities reserves the right to take possession of the artifacts, and the foreign national in such an event, will be accorded reasonable compensation for it.
4. It is prohibited by all means for foreign nationals, to take outside the A.R.E. Egyptian artifacts or export them back to their countries once they have entered the A.R.E.
